The 20th Arabian Travel Market (ATM) has opened in Dubai on May 6 with a record number of more than 2,500 exhibitors and over 20 national tourist delegations.

The Seychelles will be at ATM again this year, because these islands are today served by the Middle East hubs as never before, making them but one stop from anywhere in the world. The Seychelles delegation said as they left the islands for Dubai that they were ready to tell Dubai and the whole GCC and Middle East countries that they have stronger tourism strategies aimed specially at expanding the Middle East and GCC receipts.

Running until May 9 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) and celebrating two decades of success this year, Arabian Travel Market has seen the Seychelles delegation serious about receiving visitors from that part of the world as it continues to work with the island’s Tourism Board.

This year the island’s Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Alain St.Ange, will be personally heading the Seychelles delegation at ATM. He is being accompanied by Elsia Grandcourt, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, and Jessica Giroux from Mason’s Travel ([ኢሜል የተጠበቀ]), Johnette Labiche from Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino ([ኢሜል የተጠበቀ]), Ahmed Abdelghafar of Hilton Seychelles ([ኢሜል የተጠበቀ]), Evgenia Boyankova and Denis Verkhoorubov of Coral Hotel and Savoy Hotel Group ([ኢሜል የተጠበቀ]), Cindy Vidot of Air Seychelles ([ኢሜል የተጠበቀ]), and Eric Renard of Creole Travel Services ([ኢሜል የተጠበቀ]).

Tourism to Seychelles from the GCC region has been experiencing phenomenal growth. According to official statistics of the Seychelles, it is showing a growth of some 43% from the UAE and 33% from other Middle East countries when compared to the same period as last year.

This year, as was the case in 2012, the island of La Reunion will be at the Seychelles Stand at the ATM to help jointly promote the region and the Vanilla islands concept. Mr. Pascal Viroleau, the Director of the Island’s Tourism (IRT) is personally present at ATM 2013.

The Republic of the Seychelles was voted as number 1 in sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean region and number 38 in the world by the World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Report 2013. This report is based on assessment of 140 economies worldwide under the theme, “Reducing Barriers to Economic Growth and Job Creation.” The assessment is based on the extent to which these economies are putting in place the factors and policies to make it attractive to develop the travel and tourism sector.
